Orangeries! So what are these? Isn’t that just a posh name for a conservatory?

More recently orangeries are becoming more and more in demand. So what are the main differences between an orangery and a conservatory and which will be better for your home?

We provide orangeries and conservatories in the Greater London area. We also carry out work further afield and have worked in Cambridgeshire, Berkshire, Hampshire, Sussex, Surrey, Middlesex, Essex and Hertfordshire. We have found that customers often ask what is the difference and which should they go for? The below points should help to answer these questions and we hope you find them useful.

1. An orangery is more of a permanent feature: an orangery is often seen as a more permanent and integral addition to a property.

2. An orangery has more brick work: whereas a conservatory is made of over 80% glass, an orangery has a lot more brick work. In fact orangeries are often looked at as half conservatory and half brick extension – combining all the features of a conservatory with a conventional brick extension.

3. Different structures: an orangery has more of a robust structure than a conservatory and has more columns, pillars and details.

4. Orangery requires more construction building an orangery requires more construction then when installing a conservatory. As a result orangeries tend to be a bit more expensive.
